There are many digital criminals on the Internet. I am a Danish citizen, and in December 2023, my Senegalese wife Fatou and I opened the small Bed and Breakfast hotel with our own restaurant “Chez Fatou et Saladin” in Casamance in southern Senegal. All our guests are very satisfied, but we have experienced a few attempts of fraud by criminals on the Internet.
An example: In January 2025, we were contacted by a Russian named Victor Abramov. He booked a month's stay at our hotel via booking com, and he wrote to us, that he would like to pay for his stay before his arrival. He was sent by a company, and during his stay in Senegal, he wanted to shoot a movie. So far so good. We are always happy when we get bookings, especially if they stay with us for a long time. But his “payment” was very mysterious. I received a link to a confirmation of his payment via Western Union, where I was asked for all my credit card informations!
Of cause I didn't finish the transaction, but I have now informed Victor Abramov that he will be reported as a criminal to booking com, and that I will upload a page on the Internet so the whole world can read about his criminal career, if they google “Victor Abramov”.
Uploading on the Internet is very effective. We did the same for the Senegalese Mansour Kan, who stayed with us for several days last year, enjoying my wife’s good food and several bottles of red wine, after which he disappeared without paying. Only a week later we were contacted by a hotel near Dakar, which told us, that Mansour Kan is a serial criminal, who has done the same stunt at several places in Senegal.
